He says: I’ve never been disappointed at Zenergy. Just down Druitt Street around the corner from Town Hall Station, it’s the standout choice in the city for a quick veggie lunch. Zenergy is a very unassuming spot which serves up a huge variety of delicious food - and very inexpensively. It is the sort of place where you almost have to say “stop” when the salad is being piled onto your plate - and there is usually a choice of seven or eight. If there’s no time to eat in, you can grab from a selection of ready-made wraps and sandwiches. The tempeh with sprouts and mayo is a real specialty and I’m yet to find anything comparable anywhere else. I could go on but I would just be gushing.

She says: Zenergy oh Zenergy. How I love thee. Let me count the ways. I love your 20 different sandwiches, including marinated tempeh, soy mayonnaise and sprouts; avocado, hummus and parsley; and banana, dates, apple and cream cheese. I love your big, brown nori rolls for $2.60, one of the best value lunch options in the city. I love your great range of hot foods, like vegetable au gratin, shepherds pie and black-eyed beans. You make healthy, delicious foods for vegetarians and vegans. You make your food with care, and serve your customers with a smile. Were you only located closer to my work, I would never go anywhere else for lunch.

Yum! Their muffins are great too - dense and moist and very filling.

Sigh. The muffins are great. I think they avoid using sugar in them so you don’t get half way through and feel slightly nauseous and greasy.

I used to work just around the corner from Zenergy. I like to think I appreciated it at the time.

Perhaps you could package up a nori roll or two and send it over this way? And if there’s room in the postpak, I do like a nice muffin…

No problem. I hear veggie food travels well. Although perhaps I will send it by express post.

Maybe I will suggest this place as my work’s next Board meeting venue. Or maybe I will just ditch the Board meeting and enjoy my lunch for once. BTW are you going to blog Iku?

Good god, just continue the torture, why don’t you? Even the THOUGHT of Iku is enough to make me want to catch the next train to Heathrow to investigate flights to Sydney for lunch…

An Iku blog is definitely in order. The other day I discovered that my local organic supermarket sells the Iku salad dressing. So tasty.

Yes! Zenergy rocks!

There is another one (or there used to be, when I worked in Sydney many moons ago) up near Elizabeth Street near the District Court (I think).

They make the world’s best rice paper rolls and brilliant smoothies.

missing Sydney

There are cute vegan guys to be found lunching here too!

Their food is soooo good. My favorite salad is the spinach and walnut mixed with the brown rice and beetroot one.I think they add mirin to the rice and it makes it taste so yummy. I really like the people working here too, I can never make up my mind but they wait patiently for me to decide.

Oh my gosh! Has Zenergy closed now?????

Noooooooooooooo!! It can’t! There seems to be a convenience store replaced it????

Anyone know if they have moved to somewhere? Or just finished?

I miss you Zenergy guys! Please come back!

The (semi) original owners sold out around 2002. It was then taken over by people who changed and downgraded the recipes (over loading hot dishes with potato). Custom continued to fall. Speaking to one of the staff in late December 2007 she mentioned they were closing for ‘renovations’. Obviously when they took it over it was a purely financial venture, and then they discovered that alternative business could be more financial rewarding.
