Ed from Tomato has just published his updated list of the top food and wine bloggers in Australia based on Technorati ranking. After the dizzying heights of making no. 21 on the food bloggers list, I’ve slipped to 39 in the combined food and wine blogs. Gulp. I have a feeling that Ed did me a favour last time by including me because my ranking has improved since the last update. Also heartened to see that some of my other favourite food bloggers, like Anna from Morsels and Musings, Reb from Cucina Rebecca, ended up in similar territory so the ranking is pretty fair. I still seem to be the the only vegetarian blogger on the list… but that’s like saying Australia came first at the Olympics, on a per capita basis. Looking at the most popular blogs there seem to be three ways that I could improve my ranking:
OK, so I only have two ideas. Anyone else think of something?

Another way to improve your ranking: get Ed at Tomato to correct the link to this blog on his site! It’s broken.

thanks so much for listing me as a favourtie blog!!! i’m so pleased you enjoy reading my musings. one way to generate more traffic is to get involved in blogging events from around the world. ed even mentioned that jenjen from milk & cookies and haalo from cook (almost) anything at least once are very social blogs and owe a lot of their traffic to the events they take part in. there are quite a few vegetarian blogs in india that would appreciate input from you i’m sure. i will do my bit for you too and email your website address around to every vegetarian i know!!!

Altho’ it’s fun checking your Technorati ranking, I think it’s also worthwhile remembering that this only indicates how often you are mentioned by other bloggers. You may well have lots of vegetarian fans who don’t own blogs, but visit your site everyday nevertheless. Photos always seem to be popular. And yes, participating in online events will automatically earn you new links in the event round-up.

Cheers guys. These are all great suggestions and you’re totally right about not getting hung up on technorati. That post was a bit cheeky - I think last time Ed just did the rankings for food bloggers so if you take out the vino blogs there hasn’t actually been any change. I had a lot of fun with the online events and want to try some more. Best part is being inspired to use new ingredients, and then to see what else people have come up with. I’ve just started reading a few Indian food blogs and can’t wait to find more. So tasty and great to hear the secrets behind the recipes. Out of interest, what Indian restaurants do you rate in Sydney? I’ve been to lots that I like, but still searching for the elusive perfect palak paneer.

i can’t get enough of the gorgeous tandoori paneer from maya masala. it’s a vegetarian restaurant at 470 cleveland street in surry hills. it also happens to be maya sweets which is a treasure trove of indian desserts. in fact i read once that this place makes the desserts for most of sydney’s indian restaurants.

Hi Kate - yes, you don’t need to be a link slut to get noticed

Cheers Reb. Really appreciate your support and thanks for tagging me. It’s such a great idea and your post had some amazing suggestions. It is causing me some soul searching!

Congratulations on being ranked 39th, Kate! I agree with Helen that you have to remember all your non-blogging veggie fans out there like, say, me for example I think the photos and the flagged map you have are a great addition. The recipes are also fun and your posts are well written, funny and interesting. Keep it up, matey-potatey.
Veggie Friendly » Phew, it’s hot in here. There must be some bloggers in the atmosphere on November 23rd, 2006 at 5:04 pm #
[…] First, there was Tomato’s ranking of Australian food and wine bloggers. Then Ed showed me hot to check out Google’s page ranking of different websites using the Google toolbar. […] Post a comment
