ARRRRGH! I’ve just spent the last hour Last year we had a similar group, and were really disappointed when the restaurant we went to only offered one vegetarian choice, which was potato gnocchi in a heavy cream sauce. So not what women want on a hot Sydney afternoon in December! We’ve finally settled on The Wharf Restaurant at the Sydney Theatre Company. It has a couple of veggie mains, plus veggie dishes, not to mention a great location and view. Will let you know what it was like shortly. In the meantime, here are some suggestions for places that will not leave the vegetarian in your team wanting. Feel free to leave more tips. Just make sure you get in early - we were too late for a Friday lunch with a largish group for the first three places in the posh choices list. Posh choices Glass brasserie (this is where I wanted to go) If you’re having a Christmas dinner, you could also try Oh Calcutta! or Libertine. Affordable choices Red Lantern (haven’t been here but has an extensive list of veggie options)

If you’re happy with natale italiano: La Sala (Surry Hills), Elio (Leichhardt) and Otto (Woolloomooloo) all have separate vegetarian menus.

They’re great tips. Thanks Anna. Italian restaurants are usually much better for veggies than modern Australian in my experience. Actually some of my other workmates are going to La Sala for lunch. When they googled it your review on Veggie Friendly came up (which is clearl what convinced them to eat there).

I wish I saw this post prior to booking in my Christmas meal… it would have saved me a lot of time! Although I read about a handy website in the papers last week called http://www.menulog.com.au. They collect information about restaurants and their Christmas packages and also let you know when they book out too. They have an option to search for vegetarian restaurants which helps to narrow it down. PS

Cheers Rachel. Love to hear how you go at Epic Brasserie. Thanks for the tip about menulog. Looks like a useful website and a good way to find new veggie restaurants. Anna’s comments about the vegetarian menu option has also inspired me - I might try and put together a list of Sydney restuarants that offfer this option to help with special occasion planning.

[…] A little while ago I wrote about how much time you can waste trying to find a nice Sydney restaurant for a vegetarian friendly work Christmas lunch. The answer, by the way, is a lot. […] Post a comment
