A couple of readers have sent me a tip and a mystery for everyone at home in Sydney. First, a reader recommends the Bella Vista Fountain restaurant in Baulkham Hills, which offers an a la carte menu as well as yum cha (great news after the spate of Veg yum cha closures early this year)! If I was in Sydney I’d be down there this weekend to try it out. As for the mystery, an inner west reader has asked if anyone knows what happened to the Metro Vegetarian restaurant on Liverpool Street in Darlinghurst (or any of its operators). Apparently it was big in the 80s, and so popular that people often had to wait for 40 - 60 minutes to get a table. Any information on the restaurant, its menu or owners would be appreciated. Hi Kate , i wondered if you got any answers about the Metro vegetarian restaurant in Sydney, I was also surfing the net to try to find out what happened to it..it was the best! i live in brisbane now but am going down to sydney for hols and was hoping it was still there..still dream about their russian pie.. thanks Marcia

Hi Marcia Unfortunately I haven’t turned up anything on Metro restaurant, but now my curiosity is piqued. I’ll do some digging when I get back to Sydney in a few weeks and hopefully I’ll be able to turn something up. Cheers Kate

Me again Kate, thought I’d check in to see if any news, The Metro was such a wonderful hole in the wall squeeze into a table kind of place but the food was magic, my boyfriend at the time said she has to be a witch casting spells over this food ..its just TOOO awesome…ok so he’s a bit eccentric but you get the point. please remember be if you find out anything…i wonder what happened to her…

hi, well my mum was actually the owner/chef of the metro. it was sold a number of years back and then closed down. so yeah not existant anymore!

That is indeed sad news Metro. I lived in Cremorne and often did the Metro-I’d love to have a collection of recipes and menus from that place-best food in Sydney. Post a comment
